The life of a man consists not in seeing visions and in dreaming dreams, but in active charity and in willing service – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
On Sunday 20th March 2016, 26 volunteers ran a tag marathon in aid of Sport Relief in 15 minute stages starting at 7am and finishing at approximately 1:30pm. From Bushy Park to the south west of London to Blackburn in Lancashire via Rome and Romania. We raised over £3,000 for good causes. The very lovely Ady Howes put together an amazing video telling our story (you can see it here). It was the first ever crowdsourced Twitter marathon. We called it #tweepathon.
In 2018 we are going for something altogether more ambitious. A Twitter IRONMAN, entitled #Irontweeps. Once more in aid of Sport Relief. 26 runners will complete a marathon, running a mile each (One runner will run the extra 385 yards). 9 swimmers will swim 400 metres each (The final swimmer needs to swim an additional 200 metres). 7 cyclists will cycle 25km each (The final cyclist needs to do an additional 5km). The whole event runs as a relay with each participant passing the virtual baton via Twitter. All participants will be required to tweet about the event in the run up and on the day and to record a video clip (please watch the video from last year to see the sort of thing we need). We will set up a JustGiving page in advance of the event and, for the event to successfully raise as much money as possible, you need to commit to promoting the hell out of it.
This event will be a team of 42 who can give up plenty of time on the 18th March 2018. I’m taking part myself as one of the runners so I need 25 runners, 9 swimmers and 7 cyclists to volunteer. If you want to sign up to take part please use this form. We need to know whether you want to run, swim or cycle. This event is open to anyone, regardless of ability.
Thanks in advance. You’re all lovely.
